General Discussion / If only there was a BlueSpray App...
« Last post by jwrayburn on January 02, 2019, 10:35:52 am »
I see discussions and excuses for why no App dating back to 2013. As a BlueSpray 24-zone controller user for over 2 years, I offer two objectives for 2019 that I am hopeful the BlueSpray leadership and development teams will embrace.

1) It is time to stop rationalizing why there is not a real App for iOS and Android, and move forward with developing one. This is a significant competitive disadvantage - more so in 2019 than it was in 2013. An App could make the login process far more practical on a small high-resolution screen, and it could provide for a far more intuitive user experience.

2) BlueSpray has to join the home automation party! While the API is published, which is very positive, there are few examples, and no certifications for integration with HomeSeer, HAI, Google  Home, Alexa, etc. Competitors appear to recognize this gap, and either already support they technologies, or are actively working on them. From what I see on the BlueSprayCommunity Forum, this opportunity has been under review by marketing for in excess of two years.

If had I known the BlueSpray software would be as stagnated as it is, I would have gone for Irrigation Caddy, Rachio, Orbit B-Hyve, RainNet,or another without a doubt. I remember contacting support before I bought the controller, and questioned that time lapses between firmware updates. I was told this is because the product is so mature and trouble-free. Since I have owned the controller, there have been two firmware updates.  While these improved the application, it is truly ridiculous to go a year or more between updates. There appears to be either a lack of commitment to being in this market, or a lack of vision for the product.

BlueSpray has some very likable qualities. Visually, the controller is so simple, and easy to set up. It has been very reliable.

The UI begs for several features: Login via an App, rather than some super miniature website on an iPhone. The map view is cool, but really hit or miss on screen refreshes, and non-existence in the mobile UI. There is no ability (that works reliably) to cancel an action, i.e. watering a zone, at least that provides an up-to-date screen view of what is going on. The log is unreliable and defaults to current day only, rather than last 24 hours, which would save a lot of screen taps. There are various other nuances that keep the app from being world-class, in its current form.

I previously used Irrigation Caddy, at a previous home with only 8 zones. If only that app worked with the BlueSpray hardware, what a combination that would be.

My hope for 2019 is that the product will evolve to include bonafide and certified integrations with Alexa, HomeSeer (which is what I use), IFTTT, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and/or others. I own the controller, and want to keep using it, but it is falling way short of what it could do.

Feature Request / Skip or Cancel a running Zone

So would you have this let the other loops continue where they are, just cancel and re-enable record?  Or restart from the top?  If I chose just one, it would be the former.

Announcements / BlueSpray v2.2 is released
« Last post by bluespray_admin on October 19, 2018, 08:17:44 pm »
We are pleased to announce the release of BlueSpray firmware version 2.2.  This version has 1 major feature and of course, minor bug fixes.
Feature added:

- Notifications: You can sign up to be notified of any event that occurs on the controller.  The notifications will be sent out to your registered email.  So you'd need to register your controller in order to benefit from this feature.

Bug fix:

- Controller's time some times set back to 1970: Due to problems with NTP server at times. the controller cannot get the correct time and would default to 1970.
- GUI interface for Daily Repeat feature not working on touch device.

Hardware wise, all BlueSpray controllers will be equipped with Ethernet from now on.

Help / Re: Stacking issue?
« Last post by bluespray_admin on October 01, 2018, 11:40:06 pm »
It is not stacking.  You probably have the pump connected to the master valve.  When you start a program and specify that you want to run it with master valve on, it'll turn the master valve when the program starts.
Now, if you run a program that starts the pump only for 2 minutes at the same time, it will start the pump, but aster 2 minutes, the pump only program stops and turns off the pump.  I think this is what you're seeing.

If you need to run a program with a pump on for the duration of the program, specify to run the program with master on.  If you need to run the pump for 1 minute ahead of the program, then start the pump only program 1 minute ahead of the other program.

Help / Stacking issue?
« Last post by ballen_01 on September 30, 2018, 10:21:03 pm »
I recently upgraded my firmware to 2.2, and I now am having issues when I am running two programs at once. I am running a pump out of the canal and have to pressurize the line when I start a new program. One program turns on the valve through the pressure switch and a second program starts a minute later and bypasses the pressure switch for two minutes to pressurize the line. This has always worked well in the past. Since the upgrade, when the two minute program is done, everything shuts down, and I have to put the system on standby and back online to get the line to turn back on. It kind of seems like it is stacking the runs, but I have that option set to "No". I hope this makes sense.

Google Map Lawn View went very dark and now shows this error:  "This page can't load Google Maps correctly."  Also asks do I own this web site. Background is very dark and has the added labels "Development Purposes Only."  I use on my Mac computer.
